The Sierra Madre Rotary Club held its first Tri-Tip BBQ fundraising event at the Annual Sierra Madre Wistaria Festival in 1997, the year the Club was formed. The founding members began the project by building a huge BBQ on wheels to grill Tri-Tip then serving it on a yummy sandwich roll with au jus and horseradish. Our famous Sierra Madre Rotary Tri-Tip sandwich was born and continues to be a crowd favorite each year at the Festival.

In 2003 one of the Club members, who is a food scientist by trade, developed the Sierra Madre Rotary Club Rub seasoning to be used on the tri-tip sold at the Wistaria Festival. Immediately locals and people passing through Sierra Madre for the Festival began asking to purchase the Rub separately. It became such a rave that the Club decided to bottle the Rub and sell it year-round.
